Hello! I’m Naomi and I’ve joined Mangorolla to work on the I’m a… projects, with a focus on Widening Participation. It’s my job to pay attention to which students are taking part in our projects. I’ll be making sure we provide the opportunity to the students who can benefit the most from taking part, and working with external organisations to support us to do that.
Before joining I was working in widening participation for the University of Gloucestershire. I’ve seen first-hand the difference that targeted interventions can have for young people and am looking forward showing how valuable the I’m a… projects are in providing subject specific activities. I’ve worked on one event so far (14 zones, 70 scientists and engineers and over 6000 students) and I was astounded by the questions. A real mix of challenging science, but also young people thinking about their future education and careers.
I graduated from the University of Bath in 2011 having studied Chemistry. For me, the opportunity to be based in this beautiful city again, in a role that combines my science background and widening participation was too good an opportunity to pass up.
Outside of work I’m an adult leader with Girlguiding UK and love to bake. I’m particularly fond of bread, and rather terrible at proper pancakes.
That’s all you need to know about me, but if you want to talk widening participation I look forward to hearing from you!
